Manual order review
Manual Shopify order reviews should have an owner — not just a flag.
If an order needs a human review before fulfilment, ShopTasks creates an assigned task linked to that order so the review stays visible until somebody completes it.
A review flag is not a review workflow.
Stores put orders into manual review for fraud, mismatched addresses, wholesale terms, catalog errors, or a `manual-review` tag. Shopify can hold the order. What it cannot do is make sure a named person finishes the check today. Review queues become a list of statuses. The actual work — look at the order, decide, release or cancel — lives in someone's head or a spreadsheet that lags behind the queue.
Turn the review into assigned work
ShopTasks treats a manual review as operational work. The task is linked to the Shopify order, assigned to ops or risk review, and dated against the ship window. Comments capture why it was held and what was checked. When the reviewer clears it, the task closes. If orders tagged `manual-review` arrive all day, Shopify Flow can create the task the moment the tag is applied so the queue does not depend on someone noticing.
Review queue as a workflow
- 1
Order enters review
A tag, risk signal, payment issue, or policy sends the order to manual review before fulfilment.
- 2
A review task is created
ShopTasks opens work titled for that order — for example, 'Review order #2201 before fulfilment' — with the order attached.
- 3
A reviewer owns the decision
Ops or a designated reviewer is the assignee. Due timing matches when the order would otherwise ship.
- 4
Clear or escalate, then close
Release, cancel, or request more information. The task keeps the decision history on the same record.
Orders tagged manual-review
Trigger → conditions → ShopTasks task → assignee → completion
- When
An order is tagged `manual-review` in Shopify — by a staff member, a Flow condition, or another app.
- If
Tag equals `manual-review`.
- Then
Create ShopTasks task: Review Shopify order #2201 before fulfilment
Check address, payment, and line items. Do not fulfil until the reviewer marks the task done or escalates.
- Assign
Operations reviewer
- Complete
Order released or cancelled with a written note on the task of what was checked.
What this changes
-
Reviews cannot hide in a status
Each review is a task with an owner, not only a hold on the order.
-
Ship windows stay honest
Due dates make it obvious when a review is about to miss the fulfilment cut-off.
-
Handoffs keep the reason
The next reviewer sees why the order was held instead of starting from a blank timeline.
-
Tags can create the work
If you already tag orders for review, Flow can turn that tag into an assigned ShopTasks task.
Who this is useful for
- Stores with a manual review or fraud-check step before ship
- Ops teams using tags such as `manual-review` or `hold`
- Support leads who verify addresses or payment issues on specific orders
- Merchants who outgrew a spreadsheet of orders to check
Shopify Flow can open the review task
Trigger on order created or order tagged. If the order has your review tag or another condition you already use, create a ShopTasks task for the reviewer. The order does not wait for someone to scan the holds list.

FAQ
Does ShopTasks replace Shopify's hold or payment review?
No. Shopify still holds the order. ShopTasks assigns the human review that decides what happens next.
Can we create tasks only for tagged orders?
Yes. A common pattern is: if the order is tagged `manual-review`, create an assigned ShopTasks task linked to that order.
Who should own review tasks?
Whoever is allowed to release or cancel the order — often ops or a designated reviewer — not a shared Slack channel.
Is this free?
ShopTasks is free to install, with up to 500 active tasks, unlimited staff, and unlimited boards.
