Board Views: Kanban, List, Calendar & Timeline

Every board in Shop Tasks offers four different views so you can see your work the way that makes the most sense for your team. Switch between views at any time — they all show the same tasks, just organized differently.

Switching Views

At the top of any board, you’ll see tabs for each view:

  • Board (Kanban)
  • List
  • Calendar
  • Timeline

Click a tab to switch. Your tasks stay the same — only the layout changes.

Kanban View

The kanban view shows your tasks as cards organized into columns by status (e.g. To Do, In Progress, Done).

  • Drag and drop tasks between columns to update their status.
  • Click the + button in any column to quickly add a new task.
  • Tasks show key info at a glance: title, assignee avatar, priority, due date, and labels.

This view is ideal for teams that want a visual, flow-based way to manage work.

List View

The list view shows all tasks in a flat, sortable table.

  • Sort by title, assignee, priority, due date, or status.
  • Filter to show only specific statuses, assignees, or labels.
  • Quickly scan large numbers of tasks without scrolling through multiple columns.

Best for: big boards with many tasks, or when you need a compact overview.

Calendar View

The calendar view displays tasks on a monthly calendar based on their due date.

  • Tasks appear on the day they’re due.
  • Click a date to see all tasks due that day.
  • Click a task to open its detail view.
  • Tasks without due dates won’t appear in this view.

Best for: deadline-driven work like product launches, marketing campaigns, or seasonal preparations.

Timeline View

The timeline view shows tasks plotted on a horizontal timeline.

  • See how tasks overlap and how work is distributed across days and weeks.
  • Great for understanding workload and spotting bottlenecks.
  • Tasks are grouped by status for visual clarity.

Best for: planning sprints, coordinating across team members, and ensuring work is evenly distributed.

Customizing Board Statuses

Each view respects the board’s configured status columns. To customize which statuses are available:

  1. Open your board and go to Settings (gear icon).
  2. In the Statuses section, enable or disable the columns you need.
  3. Available statuses: Todo, Backlog, In Progress, Review, Blocked, Done, Cancelled.

Note: the Free plan uses a restricted set of statuses. Upgrade for the full set.

Tips

  • Use the view that fits the moment. Switch to calendar before a big launch, list view for weekly reviews, and kanban for daily standups.
  • All views share the same data. Moving a task in kanban updates it everywhere else too.
  • Combine with board teams. Restrict a board to specific team members so each view shows only relevant work.
